£175m Garden Bridge gets green light

The controversial garden bridge has been approved by Westminster Council, with a committee saying it will bring “significant public benefits.”

The Joanna Lumley supported and Thomas Heatherwick designed bridge will cost around £175m and is expected to have around 5,000 people an hour using the crossing at peak times.

Deputy Leader of Westminster City Council, Robert Davis, said: “This is something that is iconic and absolutely unique and will be recognised right across the world.”

Following its approval, the bridge is expected to be open in 2018 and will provide London with a brand new attraction.

SEGRO agree new planning permission agreement

SEGRO have been granted full planning permission for the creation of industrial buildings on the Slough Trading Estate for the next 10 years.

For the third successive 10 year period Slough Borough Council have granted a Simplified Planning Zone (SPZ), allowing the construction of a range of commercial buildings, such as warehouses and research and development facilities.

Commenting on the agreement, SEGRO’s Business Unit Director for Thames Valley, Gareth Osborn, said: “This SPZ agreement is the culmination of productive discussions with our partners at Slough Borough Council, who, like us, recognise the decisive benefits offered by the assurance it enables us to provide in terms of speed, flexibility and certainty of construction.”

 Tim Clement of JLL becomes chairman of the Industrial Agents Society

The Industrial Agents Society (IAS) had their annual Christmas dinner this week, with outgoing Chairman Darren Cheeseman handing over the position to his successor Tim Clement.

Comedian Simon Evans topped the bill for the event, which hosted some of the biggest names in industrial and commercial property. The event was attended by the NovaLoca team, who enjoyed a wonderful evening at the stunning Park Lane Hotel.

Commenting on his appointment, Clement said: “This is a fantastic position to hold and I’m excited for the two years ahead. With the market improving and the organisation reaching its 40th birthday, there is lots do in terms of raising the profile of the IAS and ensuring that we hold more networking and trading events.”
