Green light for Ordsall scheme

Salford council has reportedly granted planning permission to LPC Living for its regeneration scheme on the site of the former Radclyffe school in Ordsall, Salford.

LPC had submitted plans for a 50,000 sq ft Morrisons store and the scheme also includes a 156-bed Travelodge hotel as well as another 11 retail units and 114 flats and townhouses. The development forms part of the wider regeneration plans for Ordsall, where LPC has invested £150m over the past five years. Work on the supermarket is to start in October and construction of the hotel will begin in January 2011.

The retail units are only around 500m from MediaCity, the new base for the BBC. Simon Ashdown, development director at LPC Living, said: “With the BBC moving to their new base in 2011, Salford Quays is rapidly gaining national significance”.

“However, it is vital that the outlying areas to MediaCity benefit directly from the investment that is being brought into the area and development such as this needs to respond and positively impact on local training and employment opportunities and significantly improve  community facilities.”
