More City activity

Heron Tower, at 110 Bishopsgate, was topped out today. This is currently the tallest building in the City of London, with 46 storeys, and offers 439,560 sq ft of offices with a restaurant and bar at floors 38-40. The tower is 663 ft high but when its mast is installed the building will have an overall height of 755 ft.

The tower’s designers say that by positioning services in a core on the south side of the building, its open-plan office space will be unusually flexible.

Meanwhile another City landmark, Tower 42 (once known as the NatWest Tower) has been put up for sale by its owners BlackRock and Hermes. Reports suggest they are seeking around £300m for the tower, which is 95% let and at 600 ft the tallest occupied building in the City.

BlackRock and Hermes are seeking to take advantage of the strong demand for City office space for sale and to let, which has seen rents rebounding this year (see the latest comments by Cluttons about the surge in City rental values, and Cushman & Wakefield’s recent research on the office market).
