New Developments in Kent
Kent is a county in South East England and one of the Home Counties. Described as “the garden of England” by Lonely Planet, Kent has sea-lined border and an extensive landscape of hills, farmland and country estates. Kent is also well known for its production of fine ales and wines.
NovaLoca are always interested in what’s going on in all different areas of the UK. This week we’ve caught up with recent and future commercial developments in Kent. It seems there’s a lot going on!
Ashford
Over 1,000 homes were completed last year in the town of Ashford, which lies on the river Great Stour. The town is about 61 miles southeast of central London.
Recent projects in Ashford include:
- Elwick Place – A £75 million scheme by Stanhope PLC to provide a six-screen Picturehouse cinema, hotel, and eight restaurant/bars.
- Commercial Quarter – Located between the international station and the town centre, this area will create several thousand jobs, 590,000 sq ft of office space and 150 homes.
- Victoria Way – Leading property regeneration company U+I is planning over 800 homes and new amenities across two sites.
- Ashford College Campus – Construction work is under way on a new £16 million state-of-the-art Ashford College Campus and is due to complete in September 2017.
Ebbsfleet Garden City
The Ebbsfleet Development Corportation has a vision to deliver a city of up to 15,000 new homes and 32,000 new jobs. This will also include a range of sustainable facilities, amenities and activities between Dartford and Gravesend around Ebbsfleet International Station.
Progress made so far this year includes permission for David Wilson Homes to create a new development of 154 homes in Castle Hill. Work has also begun on over 470 homes by Countryside, Redrow and Charles Church. Discussions are underway for commercial development aound the stations and planning permission has been granted for a new 420-pupil primary school in Castle Hill.
St James, Dover
The St James redevelopment project is a new 156,915 sq ft retail and leisure scheme at the heart of Dover town centre that will provide a six-screen cinema, a 108-room Travelodge hotel, restaurants and shops. Legal & General Property has committed £53m to acquire and fund the development and Kier has been awarded a £24m contract to deliver the scheme.
