5 Tips for Dealing with Stress at Work

Stress in the workplace is a serious problem. Over 55% of people find work more stressful than health, financial problems, debt and relationship problems. So, we’ve put together some tips for dealing with workplace stress.

Exercise more

Exercise is a great way to deal with stress. You don’t need to start running marathons, but you could start going for brisk walks on your lunch break. Getting away from your desk and getting some fresh air is a great way to de-stress. You could also suggest introducing walking meetings in your workplace. Instead of sitting around a conference table, get outside and have your meeting while you walk. That way, you’ll be encouraging your colleagues to de-stress also.

Eat Healthier

Often when were stressed, we crave sugary and fatty foods because of the temporary pleasure they bring. However, stress eating will not help. Fatty foods only make us more lethargic and increase our stress. Eating healthily can reduce stress and fuel our brains to support concentration and focus.

Get More Sleep

Lack of sleep has long been linked to stress. When you’re tired you become irritable and on edge. Ideally, we should be getting eight hours of sleep a night. So, try getting into bed and start to wind down earlier to feel more refreshed in the morning.

Prioritise Tasks

Keep a daily to-do list, then organise the list by order of importance. Set yourself deadlines to keep on top of your to do list. Being aware of everything you need to do and when it needs to be done by can help to make you feel less stressed.

Make Friends with Colleagues

Having a good relationship with the people you work with is great for avoiding stress. That way, you won’t be dreading going to work and you’ll be in a good mood when you get there. And if you do get stressed, you’ll have people to talk to about it.
