South Gloucestershire is a district in the south west of England, north and east of the city of Bristol. It was formed in 1996 when the county of Avon was abolished. The River Severn forms its north west edge. It is a prime location for industrial and distribution centres due to its network of major roads including the town of Kingswood with its printing and light engineering industries and Filton with major aircraft works for both British Aerospace and Rolls-Royce companies.
