Dunfermline is one of Fife-s principal centres of commerce and has a resident population now in excess of 50,000 persons and a catchment area estimated to be in the region of 150,000.
The town occupies a key position within Fife, a few miles north of the Forth Road & Rail Bridges, and adjacent to the M90 motorway. Dunfermline is also on the Fife Circle rail network which connects all of Fife-s principal towns with Edinburgh to the south.
The subjects are prominently located on Pilmuir Street adjacent to the western entrance into the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in the heart of the city centre. Pilmuir Street connects south towards High Street and north towards Carnegie Drive.
The Kingsgate Shopping Centre is to the east of the subjects which boasts several national retailers and is the largest indoor shopping centre in the region.
Dunfermline Bus Station is also located on the opposite side of Pilmuir Street.
Parking is available via the Kingsgate Centre Car Park adjacent and at a number of local authority car parks at several locations nearby.
Description
The subjects comprise a former church building which is Category B Listed and approximately 300 years old.
The building is of traditional stone construction and is surmounted by a single pitched and slate clad roof, incorporating a small steeple feature. There is a single storey projection to the rear which is of similar construction but with a part roughcast render finish.
The principal entry to the subjects is to the front (south) elevation via an area which was formerly used as a caf, although this entrance is presently closed off for safety reasons. There is also a side entrance into the lobby and a stairwell leading to a first-floor mezzanine.
Alternative main access is via the entrance from the rear courtyard leading into the single storey extension element which wraps around the north and west elevations of the main building.
The accommodation throughout is provided over mostly solid stone floors with some parts of the accommodation having raised, timber flooring, and there are a variety of finishes throughout, dependent upon on location.
The main original internal walls are of solid stone and are generally plastered and painted with some elements of painted stonework, whilst other internal partitions are formed in timber stud and plasterboard. The ceilings are generally plastered and painted.
Window openings were noted to be single glazed with some large, stained glass window features.
The first floor/mezzanine balcony accommodation is of a basic nature and presently used for storage purposes.
